Judging by the thigh-skimming creations on show during the first half of New York Fashion Week next winter's fashion is all about less being more. VIP guests could have been forgiven for thinking they'd been invited to view a spring collection, as some of the top names gave their take on the classic mini-dress.
Max Azria's runway presentation for Herve Leger included several attention-grabbing skin-tight affairs, ranging from a sleek purple and cobalt blue to a peach satin creation with starched chiffon train.
Also delivering high visual impact and high hemlines was Miss Sixty. A slew of stars, including new mum Milla Jovovich and US actress Ashley Olsen, were front row to check out the collection, which featured long-sleeved plunge-neck designs, such as a stone-hued dress teamed with striking orange tights.
At DKNY the look was distinctly Seventies, interpreted through prom-style silhouettes and bow detailing. Dallas-based designer Lela Rose also followed suit with a selection of delicate one-shoulder gowns, including a tiered dress in pale ivory silk.
