While the first half of New York Fashion Week was awash with figure-hugging mini-dresses and feminine thigh-skimming creations, leading designers upped the ante during Monday's runway presentations with a selection of dramatic floor-length gowns.
Oscar de la Renta presented a lavish collection of show-stopping dresses in jewelled hues for next winter, including a striking long-sleeved dusky green number modelled by platinum-haired catwalk star Agyness Deyn. Other highlights included the show's finale, a gold-sprinkled pale champagne tulle topped with a sheepskin coat.
Also going for opulent glamour was Carolina Herrera, who unveiled a collection of billowing red-carpet-worthy creations in shades of maroon and deep reds, including a standout gown featuring shoulder feather embellishments. Columbia-born designer Gustavo Arango followed suit with a selection of striking satin fishtail dresses of cobalt blue and deep purple.
At Diane von Furstenberg's show the look was inspired by Forties Manhattan. VIP guests including Ocean's Thirteen actress Ellen Barkin and Susan Sarandon looked on as models sashayed down the runway in colourful silks and floral prints.
