Fezzes and frocks dominated the catwalk as the curtain went up on London Fashion Week. The most striking offerings came from revived Sixties label Biba, which has signed up a roster of young designers for its comeback and opens a new boutique in the capital this year.
The undoubted star of Sunday's show by the fashion house which put the mini on the high street was, of course, its signature thigh-skimming silhouette, updated for a modern generation.
Feathers and sequins adorned jewel-bright dresses in plums and purples, all worn with felt fez-style hats.
Also delivering an edgy look was Ben de Lisi. Known as a master of the sort of understated, sexy glamour favoured by Kate Winslet, the American-born designer had decided to mix it up with a warrior theme. The result was slouchy floor-length dresses and jumpsuits in a bold chain-mail prints partnered with summer's hot shoe - the gladiator sandal.
Topshop also won plaudits for its collection, which drew inspiration from the rugged wilderness. Chunky wool knitwear and sheepskin coats were presented alongside skin-tight leather trousers in front of an audience which included Kelly Osbourne and hip presenter Alexa Chung.
