With an impressive portfolio featuring perfumes, a make-up line, calendars, exercise videos and children's books, Cindy Crawford has turned her hand to numerous successful ventures since leaving full-time modelling behind. And now the covergirl-turned businesswoman has added another area to her CV - interior design.
The 42-year-old beauty was in Canada this week to launch her new home range, which encompasses everything from rugs and sofas to bed linen and kids furniture. The extensive line, which is currently available in North America, also features pieces inspired by the interior of her own Malibu home.
It was a magazine spread of the luxury beach house which Cindy shares with husband Rande Gerber that got the ball rolling on her new career as a furnishings designer. After seeing the article, and impressed by her sense of style, a homeware company approached the mum-of-two with the idea of putting together her own interiors collection.
Though she admits to having doubts about whether people would accept her new career direction, Cindy went ahead with the project, excited by the challenge it would pose. And working outside her comfort zone while learning new things has been a rewarding experience. It felt "like I'm getting a college education" while doing it, she says.
