Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani and Roberto Cavalli all showed their latest menswear designs in Milan this week.
A consummate tailor, the 74-year-old Italian fashion maestro presented a fitted silhouette for formal wear at Armani, with suits updated this year with softer cuts explored in a range of fabrics and colours. While at the Emporio show – attended by David Beckham – he presented an 'eco-style' theme which included short, green jackets teamed with high-waisted trousers.
Dolce & Gabbana design duo Domenico and Stefano returned to their roots for next autumn/winter's looks, taking inspiration from their Sicilian birthplace.
The Italian duo's offerings stood out from the largely grey palette being shown on other runways, with flashes of colour incorporated in silk jackets, military coats and quilted trousers.
At Roberto Cavalli's show models paraded across a hacienda-like set in loose blanket coats and over-sized shirts. The Florence-born designer had compelted his designs with one of the week's key accessories – chunky scarves.
Canadian twins Dean and Dan Caten presented their latest Dsquared2 collection under the title 'The Show Must Go On', a reference to the state of the world's economy. If you have a smoking jacket but no black trousers, just team it with distressed jeans suggest the pair, who also showed daytime dinner jackets and leather vests lined with fur.
