Prime minister's wife Sarah Brown was among the high-profile guests donning their own headgear this week for the opening night of a V&A exhibition which has been hailed as one of the most fascinating displays of millinery ever staged.
While Sarah's feathered pillar-box headpiece complemented her demure black skirt and jacket combo, its simplicity ensured it stood out next to some of the flamboyant designs on display. One guest was wearing a titfer which resembled an upside-down boot, while another was toting a birds' nest-style wreath of leaves and vines on their head.
All had donned the creative pieces for Hats: An Anthology, a collaboration with celebrity milliner Steven Jones, who's worked with the likes of Giles Deacon, Marc Jacobs and John Galliano. Two years in the making, the expo showcases over 300 items ranging from an Egyptian mask dating from 600bc to modern day couture creations.
Non hat wearing-guests at the inauguration of the exhibition, which runs from February 24 to May 31, included mother–and-daughter modelling team Amber and Yasmin Le Bon.
