No matter how many years you've spent in the industry, putting on a show at New York Fashion Week is inevitably a nerve-racking affair. So for L'Wren Scott, a congratulatory hug from the man she loves was the perfect way to celebrate a successful production. Rolling Stones rocker Mick Jagger was among the guests at his stylist partner's intimate spring 2010 show, which was also attended by actor Kevin Bacon, his wife Kyra Sedgewick and actress Ellen Barkin.
Shunning convention, Utah-born L'Wren had instructed models to parade her latest designs in front of one long table where her invitees sat in a line. And as the show got underway, a curtain was pulled back exposing the backstage area to the full view of the audience.
They tucked into a lunch of salad nicoise and rose wine as they previewed the new collection, which L'Wren revealed was inspired by the moonlit peonies in her garden. So there were plenty of rich pinks and fuchsias in the show - which was taking place on the final day of New York Fashion Week - incorporated into pieces including feminine dresses and taffeta blouses. "To put on a show, it's very difficult. So when I give a show I think it's very nice to have the special people you want to see there," said the designer after the show. "And I sort of took everything I didn't like about a big production and went to my own beat really."
