Just two weeks shy of their 23rd wedding anniversary, designer Vera Wang and husband Arthur Becker have announced their divorce. The designer, who is renowned for her wedding gown collections, married computer executive Arthur in 1989 and the pair have two daughters - Cecilia, 21, and 19-year-old Josephine.
“They remain devoted parents to their two daughters,” Vera’s company president said in a statement. After helping Vera turn her fashion label into a multimillion-dollar business, Arthur became increasingly involved in the day-to-day runnings of the company. But their split, reportedly, will not affect the hugely successful label. “They will not let this impact the running of the company,” said a source close to the couple. “They have worked too hard to build it up.”
New York-born Vera started her fashion career at US Vogue, rising through the ranks to become senior fashion editor. But after being turned down for the editor-in-chief position, currently held by Anna Wintour, she left to join Ralph Lauren as a design director for two years. In 1990, she branched out on her own, opening a design salon in the Carlyle Hotel in New York that features her trademark bridal gowns. Her business went from strength to strength, and she has designed wedding dresses for plenty of high-profile figures, including Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez and, most recently, Kim Kardashian (pictured above).
Uma Thurman, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner and Mariah Carey are other celebrity clients who called upon the design genius for their big day.
