Bonjour Paris: What can fashionistas expect in the City of Light?

September 26, 2012

After whirlwind stints in New York, London and Milan, the jet set has moved on to the world’s style capital. And if there were any tired fashionistas in Paris this week, they will certainly have been woken up the dramatic first show that took place at the Gare de L’Est, directly below the station's iconic clock-face.

The presentation by emerging talent Impasse de la Defense kicked off the first day that is traditionally dedicated to young designers. Meanwhile, the big hitting fashion houses were putting the finishing touches to their new designs. On the back of his debut couture collection, the fashion world is eagerly waiting to see what Raf Simons has in store for his Christian Dior ready-to-wear line on Friday. And Sunday’s spectacular trio of Celine, Hermes and Givenchy will show the world the true meaning of luxury.

But all eyes will be on Balenciaga’s front row on Thursday. As the face of the brand’s new fragrance, Kristen Stewart – who has been the subject of a media storm this summer – is expected to attend. Design maestro Karl Lagerfeld will ensure Chanel puts on a typically headline-grabbing show on the penultimate day – think aeroplanes, icebergs and underwater kingdoms. Wrapping up the extravaganza are Louis Vuitton and Elie Saab. Having wowed in recent seasons with fantastic set designs that included a carousel and a steam train, Vuitton is bound to be special. And as the king of the red carpet, Lebanese designer Elie Saab is sure to have an A-lister or two on his front row.
