America's hottest musical talents pulled out all the sartorial stops as they brought their unique star style to the 40th Annual Music Awards on Sunday night. But it was golden girls Taylor Swift and Heidi Klum who shone brightest on the red carpet, dazzling in their gold sequinned minidresses. Twenty-two-year-old Taylor, who is rumoured to be dating One Direction's Harry Styles, was stunning in the long-sleeved, floral embroidered Zuhair Murad number, showing off her enviably long legs with its short hemline. She teamed the striking creation with sparkly Jimmy Choo heels and sultry make-up that consisted of smokey eyes and dramatic lashes, while her honey-hued locks had been pulled up into a chic bun.
And it was the country singer's lucky night, as she won her fifth consecutive award for favourite country female artist. "This is unreal," she said onstage. "I want to thank the fans. You guys are the ones who voted on this." She later gave a masquerade-themed performance of the song, I Knew You Were Trouble. Supermodel Heidi, meanwhile, also followed the metallic route in a gold high-necked dress. But the German-born beauty, who walked the red carpet alone, managed to show even more leg in her minidress with its thigh split. A high neck and matching shoes added to the dramatic effect. Another blonde beauty showing off acres of endless pins was George Clooney's girlfriend Stacey Keibler, who looked incredible in a grey geometric printed minidress.
But other stars opted to eschew short hemlines for more dramatic maxidresses. Christina Aguilera put her show-stopping curves on display in a tight, long lilac dress that featured pretty drapes in all the right places. Following a turbulent few weeks with his estranged girlfriend Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber's mum was the only woman he wanted by his side as he triumphed at the awards ceremony. The pop sensation's proud parent Pattie Mallette watched as her son accepted the night's top prizes including artist of the year, favorite pop/rock artist and favorite pop/rock album for Believe. Looking into her eyes, Justin said: "I wanted to thank you for always believing in me". He admitted it was "hard growing up with everyone watching me" and asked his fans to continue to support him, promising longevity by saying he was "going to be here for a very long time."
A storming set with Nicki Minaj was the icing on the cake of the 18-year-old's big night. He and Nicki performed their thumping duet Beauty And A Beat – a song which name checks Justin's sweetheart Selena. It was recently reported that the heartthrob and his actress girlfriend had ended their relationship after a tiff. However, the couple were seen having a heart-to-heart over dinner shortly before the awards ceremony, prompting speculation the youngsters will reconcile.
