They are two of the biggest Hollywood stars around. So it was entirely fitting that Freida Pinto and Cate Blanchett shone bright in metallic hues as they stepped out for the Life of Pi premiere at the Dubai Film Festival on Sunday. Slumdog Millionaire star Freida, returning to the city that gave her a starry status when it screened the Academy Award-winning film in 2009, was every inch the Grecian goddess in a gold, floor-sweeping Ralph Lauren gown that featured a jewel-encrusted snake embellishment around the neck.
The actress accessorised with a matching Ferragamo gold clutch and gold, strappy Charlotte Olympia heels. And she completed the stunning look with smokey eye makeup and an elegant updo that showed off the intricate dress to perfection. Oscar-winning actress Cate also opted for a metallic number, sharing the limelight with Freida in a stunning silver Rodarte gown that incorporated layers of chiffon and a bronze section at the waist. She teamed the show-stopping creation with a pair of black peep-toe heels, subtle makeup that complemented the gown's pale hue and a sophisticated side-swept updo.
The ladies were in Dubai to fulfil their roles at the film festival. Cate is the head of jury that will pick the winner of the IWC Schaffhauden Filmmaker script award, while Freida is the head of the jury for the short film competitions. Directed by Ang Lee, Life of Pi is adapted from Yann Martel's novel. The film, which chronicles a young man who survives a disaster at sea and is hurtled into a journey of adventure and discovery, has already received critical praise. The seven-day long affair is also set to see other Oscar winners Kevin Spacey and Colin Firth, while fellow stars Rooney Mara, Kirsten Davis, Adil Hussain and Bryan Ferry are also due to fly in for the celeb-filled affair.
