Dazzling Jennifer Lawrence wins big in sparkly Valentino Couture

January 10, 2013

Scooping a staggering six gongs – including Favourite Movie actress, Favourite Face of Heroism and Favourite On-Screen Chemistry, it's fair to say it was Jennifer Lawrence's night at the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday. And the Hunger Games actress looked nothing short of stunning as she picked up her prizes, striking the perfect balance between demure and sexy in a sparkly black, high-necked Valentino Couture dress that allowed for a flash of leg with its thigh-high split.

Jennifer teamed the gorgeous gown with black Nicholas Kirkwood pumps and Cartier jewellery, opting for a side-swept updo that showed off her bejewelled drop earrings. A host of other famous faces opted to light up the awards ceremony with shimmering and sparkling dresses. Glee star Lea Michele, who picked up the Comedic TV actress award for her role as Rachel Berry in the hit US TV show, showed off her enviable physique – not to mention the deep tan she picked up on her Hawaiian holiday with boyfriend Cory Monteith – in a hot pink, sequin-adorned Elie Saab minidress. And Rumer Willis went for all-out sparkle in a black and silver striped Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet gown that oozed glitz and glamour. Ryan Secrest's other half Julianne Hough, meanwhile, went for a beaded Tony Ward couture full-skirted dress that she played and flirted with while posing for the cameras on the red carpet.

But there were other leading ladies in attendance that had chosen a more toned-down look. Jennifer Aniston, despite sticking to her trademark red carpet event favourite black, had eschewed her usual simple, classic form-fitting silhouettes for a leather skater dress by Dior. The 43-year-old was moved to tears as she accepted the award for Comedic Movie Actress. Heidi Klum had also opted for the flattering hue, showing off the stunning physique that has made her one of the most famous supermodels in the world in a slinky black Julien McDonald gown with cut-outs trimmed in gold. Taylor Swift, meanwhile, was in high spirits at the awards ceremony, following her split from One Direction star Harry Styles. Showing Harry what he is missing out on, the 22-year-old country singer stunned in her first public appearance since the breakup in a very daring white Ralph Lauren gown. Taylor completed her look with a pair of turquoise earrings and an elegant up'do.

The star didn't go home empty handed - at the awards she took the gong for Best Country Artist which was presented to her by actress Olivia Munn. After the awards and once at home, Taylor thanked everyone for the "beautiful night": "Sitting here with my new People's Choice award and Chinese food take out, watching Law and Order. Thank you for a beautiful night:)," she tweeted. Taylor and Harry, who had been dating since November, were said to have encountered problems during their New Year break to the British Virgin Islands, where they were said to have had a row, according to the Daily Mail. "Yes I can confirm they have split up," a source told the publication. "They were on holiday and had an almighty row. They are two young stars at the top of their game so who knows what will happen in the future."
