In July of last year, rumours of a collaboration between Rihanna and UK high street giant River Island started swirling. And now, the launch date of the highly-anticipated capsule collection has been revealed as March 5. What's more, there is also news of a catwalk show that the superstar songstress will be hosting during London Fashion Week to debut her designs for the retailer. Fashion week goers can expect a frenzy on February 16, which is when the invite-only show is scheduled to take place.
Rihanna is quoted as saying: "Launching at London Fashion Week is a dream come true for me. I have wanted to design my own collection for a long time and to present my collection for River Island alongside all of the other great design talent at LFW is a real privilege. I can't wait to see the reaction from my fans and the fashion press!" The popstar already gave us a glimpse of what's to come from the collection, tweeting pictures from on set of the advertising campaign, which stars Jourdan Dunn. She was also pictured wearing a blue jumpsuit from the line. If the preview picture was anything to go by, we can expect a grungy, 90s collection featuring ripped denim, sweatshirts and vintage tshirts, which remains very true to Rihanna's personal style. The collection of clothing and accessories will launch international in River Island stores and online on Tuesday March 5. It will also be stocked at Opening Ceremony in the US and Japan.
Considering River Island's strong position in the high street market and their edgy reputation, with a focus on strong prints, heavy embellishment and standout accessories, it seems to be one heck of a sartorial partnership. "We are very excited to present our Rihanna for River Island collection at London Fashion Week," said Ben Lewis, River Island's chief executive. "This is the perfect platform to showcase Rihanna's design talent and ambition." Rihanna says of the collection, "I've been wanting to design my own collection for some time. River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family run business also really appealed to me. I find London really inspiring and River Island loves to have fun with clothes. I'm looking forward to working with them and creating something really special."
