Emilio Pucci's sketches for Beyoncé tour revealed

April 17, 2013

Italian fashion brand Emilio Pucci has revealed sketches of custom-made outfits for Beyoncé's Mrs Carter Show. The superstar kicked off her tour in style on Monday, taking to the stage in a series of outfits designed for the star by high profile designers including Julien MacDonald, DSquared2, Ralph and Russo and, it is now revealed, Emilio Pucci. Peter Dundas, the creative director behind the label, created five different outfits for the star, including an embellished black leotard, a feathered peacock-print top and a coat-dress with thigh-high boots. Beyoncé is known for her love of Emilio Pucci, wearing the brand's dramatic fishtail gown to the Met Ball in 2011 (pictured below).

"Doing Beyoncé's costumes makes a designer want to run home and sketch. She is one of the sweetest stars to work with," Peter said of collaborating with the star. "She knows what she wants and and what will work for her, but she respects creativity. I thought she looked incredible in the costumes, but it's difficult to mess things up with her. She's one of those girls who look even more beautiful without make-up." He drew inspiration from his Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, with Peter revealed that he had Beyonce's aesthetic firmly in mind while creating the designs.

"She liked the Pucci girl look and vice of the last show," he said. "But we made unique couture versions to make it extra special and also to suit her needs as a dancer. "Doing stage costumes is a little different than a show – it's like a high voltage version of the runway. For certain tableaux, there were specific needs in terms of colour and, of course, she has to be able to change in 59 seconds. That's even less than a quick change in a runway show. At her first show in Serbia, Beyoncé took to the stage in an array of dazzling outfit. One of the most eye-catching creations was the white bodysuits by European couture house Ralph & Russo. Embellished with crystals and pearls, Beyoncé made the most of the flirty peplum skirt as she stormed the stage . She swapped the tiny number for a neon-pink Grecian maxidress as she returned to the stage to sing a ballad. Other outfits included a glittering blue catsuit that showed off her killer curves to the max, a black minidress with thigh-high boots and a glittering gold bodysuit. Beyoncé teamed the costumes with big, bouncy curls and winged liner.
