Kate Middleton, who is due to give birth to the royal baby any day now, has been crowned the best-dressed pregnant celebrity, beating Kim Kardashian, Kate Winslet, model Caprice and Fergie to the top.The Duchess of Cambridge, known for her quintessentially British style and effortless elegance, was named the best-dressed for her maternity fashion in a recent poll voted for by mothers in the UK. A staggering 81 per cent of participants voted the royal as the number one pregnant style icon.
While Kate may occasionally splash out on couture clothing, she is well-known for taking a fancy to high street labels such as Topshop, LK Bennett, Reiss and Zara. The down-to-earth Duchess has also been praised for recycling her outfits, such as the sell-out £38 Topshop dress that she wore on a tour of the Harry Potter film studios in April and again to a friend's wedding in May.Kate's staples include her patent nude court heels, which both her mother Carole Middleton and younger sister Pippa Middleton have been spotted wearing, and her pastel coloured dresses.Compared to the runners-up in the vote, Kate's fashion sense is deemed more demure with the royal favouring three-quarter length sleeves, but the Duchess still manages to look youthful and chic.
Kim Kardashian, who recently gave birth to her daughter North West in June, came close in the running for the best-dressed pregnant celebrity. The reality TV star was often criticised for revealing too much and gaining a significant amount of weight during her pregnancy, with sister Khloé Kardashian jumping to her defence. "I find it disturbing that society loves to critique a woman's shape no matter how beautiful or happy she may be within herself," said Khloé in her blog post. "I am a firsthand victim to public attacking in regards to my body or appearance. That is low in and of itself. But I cannot tolerate one more vicious attack on my sister!"
Kim's best maternity outfits have included her tight-fitting black dress she wore at the MTV Movie Awards in April, which showed off her burgeoning bump. Black remained her go-to colour during her pregnancy, with the star donning the colour for both high-profile events and everyday use.
The poll was conducted by fashion store RebelRebelClothing.co.uk in partnership with Babies.co.uk. "We're not at all surprised that the Duchess won a landslide victory," said Jas Uppal of RebelRebelClothing.co.uk. "Ordinary mums are tired of seeing stars flaunt their pregnancy for the magazines and admire Kate's classic elegance. "James Macfarlane, managing director of Babies.co.uk, agreed, saying, "I think mums will be referring to her as a style icon for at least the next 20 years."
