Kate's yellow dress: all the details

April 16, 2014

Kate Middleton looked lovely as she stepped off the plane in Australia wearing a bright yellow wool crepe dress with white panels by Roksanda Ilincic.

But while fashions fans were quick to praise the Duchess of Cambridge for her fashion-forward look, her husband Prince William apparently wasn't quite so keen.

"William said I look like a banana!" Kate told a lady in the crowd.

Serbian designer Roksanda may have had an inkling of what the Duchess of Cambridge was planning on wearing for her touchdown in Australia – hours before, she tweeted a close-up image of a yellow and white dress with the caption, "Bright yellow #SS14".After Kate's appearance, she posted another tweet. "The Duchess of Cambridge wearing the @RoksandaIlincic SS14 Ryedale dress in Sydney during the royal tour to Australia," she wrote alongside a snap of the couple.

The dress is thought to be a custom design on the Ryedale dress – it is available to buy from Matches and Harvey Nichols but only in the colour inverse - white with yellow panels. It comes with a price tag of £950.

Roksanda, who has dressed Australian actress Cate Blanchett on many occasions, spoke about the Duchess of Cambridge in a recent interview. "I definitely love Kate and Cate – well, actually I have many Kate's wearing my dresses," she told Vogue Australia. "I can't pick a favourite celebrity look because each of them were quite special. What makes me proud about them are how different these great women are in the public eye, either from being actresses or public figures. "She is, however, not keen on speaking specifically about Kate. "I think some things are best to leave secret," she smiled.
