Freida Pinto was as flawless as ever as she stepped out in Dubai on Tuesday for the Chanel Cruise Collection. The stunning actress made ruffles on ruffles look good in her tiered white crop top and multicoloured skirt. The separates ensemble meant that she was showing a hint of midriff.
She was joined at the exclusive event by fellow actress Tilda Swinton and Dakota Fanning. Tilda covered up in a high-necked black coatdress while Dakota wore a bright feathered dress that emphasized her tiny waist. Having been instructed to bring flat shoes, the celebrities were transporting to the showspace – an island 650 metres off shore from Dubai's main Jumeirah beach and aptly called The Island – in traditional wooden boats.
Speaking to reporters backstage, creative director Karl Lagerfeld revealed that his inspiration for holding the show in Dubai came from Chanel founder Coco Mademoiselle. "She would have been fascinated by the Middle East, just as she was fascinated by China and England," he told The Telegraph. "Dubai's a city that rose out of the sea and desert in less than 30 years. It's like Atlantic – and now it has the tallest building on the planet [the Burj Khalifa]. "Once the honour went to the Eiffel Tower. Then the Empire State building. Now it's here. That shows you how the world is changing. This is such a modern city I wanted to avoid anything folklorique. I couldn't have done a collection in Dubai that wasn't modern. " The clothes that Karl sent down the catwalk were typically beautiful. And singer Vanessa Paradis seemed to be a fan of the collection. "It was so beautiful," she said. "I'm about to go on tour so I'm looking for stage outfits. There was a lot of gold in there. They're made for the stage."
