David Beckham looked smiley and smart in Beijing on Thursday as he attended a Breitling photocall. An ambassador of the watch brand since 2012, David wore his growing hair slicked back while he showed off his mass of facial hair, which hinted at shades of grey.
The former footballer bounded on stage in an all-black suit. and couldn't stop grinning throughout the event. It's been a mixed week for David, whose appearance came two days after his BBC documentary Into The Unknown was aired on television to commerical success. During the trip, David spoke to Davi, the first-ever Yanomami shaman to have published a book, about the problems facing his tribe, including the illegal gold mining that has been taking place on their land. He also recently received the news however that his planned proposal to build a stadium on the city of Miami's waterfront was turned down for the second time, as the location was deemed "inappropriate" by authorities including Miami's mayor Tomas Regalado. The Londoner, who used to live in Los Angeles with his wife Victoria and their four children, has been travelling back and forth stateside as he hopes to launch a Major League Soccer club. David will need to have a stadium deal finalised, however, before he can open a club.
David may have retired from football last year, but that hasn't stopped him from playing a prominent role in the build-up to the World Cup which starts on Thursday.
Having already made it to Brazil - the venue for this year's tournament - in Into The Unknown, the 39-year-old star has now fronted a new TV advert, which will launch in the first ad break for the FIFA tournament. It sees David vetting a series of new, top secret innovations in sports - including drone cameras over a cricket pitch, a suit that lets viewers experience the same physical impacts as a rugby player, and the chance to play Sofa Ref in X Factor -style voting for refereeing decisions.
