As wedding season approaches, it’s time to think about the perfect outfit. But instead of going for the usual ensembles, it’s time to think outside of the box. From dramatic earrings, to killer suits and glittery dancing shoes, it’s time to shine bright like a diamond this wedding season. We’ve compiled a list of eight tips for you to follow, but ultimately, it’s time to throw out the wedding guest rule book and have some fun with fashion.

1.  Go for glitz

Sparkle 'n' shine all night long

We all know the number one rule of weddings: never, ever upstage the bride. But why should she only get to wear the bling? If you’re a bit of a magpie and obsessed with all things glam, go for an eye-catching accessory such as a pair of sparkly heels. cone heel slingbacks.

2. Statement accessories can help up the style ante

Let your accessories do the talking

If you’re at a wedding which requires a simple frock – such as a casual outdoor wedding – you can always rely on a pair of statement earrings opaque jewelled drop earrings or eye-catching necklace to help you stand out. And don’t think you have to stick to classic silver or gold – a fun shade can really help make your look pop.

3.  Colour blocking is spot on

You'll be the belle of the ball in this jumpsuit

Hello! Fashion Monthly’s Fashion editor Rachel Story is a fan of colour-blocking for a statement look. “As long as the colours work together, it’s a really graphic and standout-from-the-crowd look,” she says. “Try teaming catwalk combos -–such as red and hot pink. This pink cross front culotte jumpsuit would look amazing with a contrasting bright coloured shoe. It's such an on-trend outfit.”

4. A suit doesn’t have to be scary

A wedding guest look which you can wear time and time again

Take a tip from Victoria Beckham and try out a super-chic trouser suit - this red crepe single breasted jacket would be perfect. Choosing one in a fun shade such as bright red will help you look spring ready and less ‘business casual’. “It’s a really chic alternative to traditional occasion dressing,” says Rachel.

5. Prints charming

A pretty print always livens up wedding dressing, but which one should you go for? “Florals and lace are both really lovely options, but a classic polka-dot is also a winning look,” says Rachel.  “Think Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman and look for alternatives to monochrome, as wearing black to a wedding feels a little off-beat.”

6. Give it some texture

Ready to hit the dancefloor?

An alternative to a bold pattern is to go for something heavily textured, like a lace shift frock. It’ll help you stand out, plus you’ll have fun showing everyone who's boss on the dance floor later!

7. Trousers are a viable option

Trousers for a wedding are both stylish AND comfortable

If you pick the right colour and style them with a glam top, there’s no reason why you can’t wear a pair of capri trousers to a wedding. “Opt for powerful shades or a punchy print,” says Rachel. She also recommends pairing with a chiffon blouse with an interesting neckline, such as a large oversize pussy-bow, to help you look evening-appropriate.

8. A jumpsuit is always a win

Printed jumpsuits are gaining popularity with both brides and their guests – and for good reason. “They suit tall and petite girls alike and are the perfect slimming alternative to a dress – particularly ones with a wide-leg and nipped-in waist,” says Rachel. “They're also a fab option if you plan on dancing the night away (plus you don’t have to worry about fake-tanning your legs!)”
