Michelle Obama wears Oscar de la Renta for the first time

October 10, 2014

First Lady Michelle Obama wore an Oscar de la Renta design for the first time ever on Thursday as she hosted a Fashion Education workshop at the White House for fashion students from across America. The 50-year-old chose a floral embroidered silk faille cocktail dress from the designer's Fall 2014 collection which she teamed with Jimmy Choo heels for a star-studded party in the evening.

Oscar has previously been outspoken about the First Lady's fashion choices, including her decision to wear a J.Crew cardigan when meeting the Queen, however there seemed to be no hard feelings as Michelle wore the dress after hosting a series of talks from fashion insiders including  Anna Wintour and Zac Posen.

The glitzy event saw a fashionable guestlist with some of the industry's biggest names including Naomi Campbell, Diane Von Furstenberg, Jason Wu and Vera Wang. Michelle is renowned for championing lesser known designers, and famously chose to wear a design by Jason Wu for both the 2009 and 2013 Inaugural Balls, catapulting the young designer to international fame. Before donning Oscar's cocktail dress for the party, the First Lady stayed true to her ethos of helping young designers and opted to wear a dress designed by fashion student Natalya Koval, who won a competition overseen by the White House.
