The Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, was as elegant as ever as she stepped out for her first royal engagement since announcing she is expecting her second child. The royal was the epitome of chic in a checked grey Alexander McQueen coatdress that she paired with a matching Jane Taylor hat. The designer creation simultaneously showed off and flattered her blossoming baby bump – Kate is just over 12 weeks pregnant.

She kept the look simple with her hair and make-up, pulling her famous locks into a low ponytail. She wore her signature charcoal-black eyeliner and blusher. Accessories were also kept to a minimum – a pair of drop-pearl earrings complemented the elegant look, and topping off the outfit were suede black pumps and a matching clutch bag.

Kate joined her husband Prince William in welcoming President Tony and his wife Mary to Britain. The 32-year-old royal looked to have made a full recovery from the debilitating morning sickness which had resulted in her cancelling a string of engagements since 8 September. While Mr Tang was the centre of Tuesday's event, royal watchers all over the world were firmly focused on the Duchess, neé Kate Middleton, who was making her first public appearance since August.
