Katy Perry dazzles in series of costumes for Super Bowl performance

February 2, 2015

Katy Perry's NFL Super Bowl XLIX performance may have featured everything from a giant tiger to backing dancers dressed as sharks, but all the attention was focused on the pop diva and her show-stopping outfits. The 30-year-old rocked a series of bold costumes designed by Moschino's Jeremy Scott for the half-time performance during the game between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.

All eyes were on the singer as she opened the show in a red and orange flame-patterned dress, riding a giant mechanical tiger. The singer paired her showstopping dress with a pair of glittering silver boots as she wowed the crowd with a performance of her hit song Roar, which included an appearance from rock legend Lenny Kravitz. "For her to come out for the opening look, I did the flame look while she performs Roar," Jeremy told Style.com. "We wanted something very strong and striking and iconic and powerful."

"Katy was very instrumental, actually, in the process of this because she was very good at nudging me in different directions at things I'd done," he added. "She was inspired by flame shoes I've done in the past, so she was like, 'What if we took something like that?'"

Katy also saw jaws drop when she performed Firework in a sequinned floor-length gown with a thigh-high split and star pattern, soaring above the crowds on a giant star. "We were talking about Old Hollywood mixed with sci-fi, glamour, a 1950s' B-movie kind of situation," said Jeremy of the dazzling dress. "We wanted to play with red-carpet Katy but in a whole other way." The American beauty also rocked a more laidback yet equally glamorous look when she sang a duet with rapper Missy Elliott, wearing a black jacket with embellishment and a jersey-esque printed number, a nod to the Super Bowl players' outfits. Another performance saw her singing with her backing dancers dressed as sharks for a beach-themed show, where Katy rocked a multi-coloured dress. However, Jeremy revealed that all of the costume changes did make for a challenge. "There's no like, 'Oh where's Katy? Let's just watch a video montage while Katy's changing' like at a normal concert," he revealed. "Everything was down to seconds. It's like, 'Okay, she has 10 seconds to take off the jacket and skirt.' There are a lot of things that are challenging for her and me."
