Taylor Swift surprised fans by stepping out with an unusual fashion accessory on Tuesday. The 25-year-old, who is known for her stylish and girly outfits, donned a harness for a day out in Los Angeles with close friend Selena Gomez.
Choosing to wear the harness backwards, Taylor donned the accessory over a black tank emblazoned with the words "This is my fight song". She completed the look with a pair of khaki shorts, ankle boots and a Louis Vuitton handbag.

While Taylor appeared happy with her outfit choice, the departure from her signature style led many fans to question the look.
"Taylor… uh I don't know how to put this… but I think you’re wearing it BACKWARDS (Taylor I love you so much)", wrote a fan on Tumblr.
However the Shake it Off singer defended her choice of fashion accessory, telling her fans: "I think you're ignoring a really important point here… That my harness and I are always ready for a zip line/ rock climbing.

Taylor has previously described her style as girly and said that rather than being led by trends, she is inspired by the 50s, 60s and 90s.
"I figure if I stick to classics, I won't have as many cringeworthy moments looking back 25 years from now," she told E!

The singer also revealed that she also looks to close friend and Girls star Lena Dunham for fashion advice.
"Lena always has great websites and shops at great stores," Taylor said. "She always tells me her newest obsession, whether it's a new website or a blog or a store. She's really good with that stuff."
