Best looks from Venice Film Festival Day 1 – from Cate Blanchett to Sigourney Weaver

These stars were dressed to impress!

Updated: August 28, 2024

The Venice Film Festival is upon us and the big event on the first day was the premiere of the long awaited Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

Understandably, the stars of the film Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara and Monica Belucci were dressed to impress, but the event also attracted some of Hollywood's biggest stars, including Cate Blanchett who looked simply sensational.

However, it wasn't the only celebration in town, as the event opened with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, which went to Alien star Sigourney Weaver.

Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett was channeling her inner sci-fi star as she arrived at the annual festival in a golden Armani gown.

She paired the look with Louis Vuitton jewelery, including a necklace she first wore in May at the Cannes Film Festival. The diamonds and pearls had already been repurposed, according to Cate's stylist, from necklaces worn to BAFTA in 2023 and 2024.

Winona Ryder

Winona Ryder certainly got the Gothic memo when it came to her hit film. Reprising her role from the original Beetlejuice, Winona was a vision in a black Chanel tuxedo gown with beautiful tulle skirt and ruffle blouse.

Sigourney Weaver

Sigourney Weaver looked beautiful in custom Chanel as she collected her Golden Lion Award.

The Alien star styled out a garment fit for a sci-fi film with a shimmering off-the-shoulder black jacket embroidered with black sequins and tulle, and adorned with jewel-encrusted buttons, paired with a black velvet mermaid skirt, the look was inspired by Chanel’s Fall 2019 Haute Couture collection.

Jenna Ortega

Jenna Ortega plays Winona's on-screen daughter in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and appeared to have taken inspiration from the fictional Lydia Deetz's red tiered wedding dress.

Although a touch more on the daring side with cut-out sections, Jenna looked red-hot in the custom red Christian Dior design with a crop top and tulle skirt.
