May 11, 2015

Anna Wintour is arguably the most powerful woman in fashion, but it seems the 65-year-old has turned her attention to conquering the world of comedy. Starring in a sketch for the Late Night with Seth Meyers show, the iconic editor has had fans in stitches with her deadpan humour.

Based on the 2009 documentary The September Issue which took fashionistas behind-the-scenes at Vogue, Seth's hilarious sketch imagines a world where Anna is the executive producer of his show, making his sketches better and choosing every last detail including whether the show should include a chicken or an astronaut.

The British icon also pokes fun at her reputation for being quite serious with deadpan jokes and long silences, as Seth runs various sketch ideas past her. The short clip kicks off with a nervous Seth waiting for a meeting with Anna, before trying to be assertive and walking into her office to get things going. "Not now, please," she says, not looking up from her papers as Seth quickly runs away.

Renowned for championing young designers and advising stars on their fashion choices, Anna's power trickles through to the show's writers, who begin dressing in tuxedos and ballgowns as a sign of respect to her high fashion credentials. "I don't know why they do that, they look ridiculous," the editor tells the camera.

It's not the first time that Anna has showcased her comic side. Not only was she reportedly behind the Zoolander invasion of the Valentino show during Fashion Week, but she has also previously taken part in a short clip answering 73 questions about her life.

The fashion icon also famously wore Prada to the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada, amidst rumours that the main character was loosely based on her.
