Did Princess Diana start this wacky hat trend spotted at Fashion Week?

London Fashion Week is all over, and as fashion editors in the capital all rest their weary feet and drink their 105th coffee of the day, they're all dissecting the big trends spotted on the runway over the last week. Fashion writer Erin Fitzpatrick over at fashion website WhoWhatWear.com has spotted something pretty interesting - a 2019 trend on the catwalk which she thinks Princess Diana started 30 years ago.

After seeing the models strut their stuff at the Erdem show, and the Simone Rocha show, the writer - in true Carrie Bradshaw style - couldn't help but wonder whether models were dressed in veiled hats that were very similar to the ones Princess Diana wore back in the 80s.

During her days of royal engagements, Princess Diana would often wear veiled hats in a variety of colours. From red to yellow, white and black, it was one of her go-to styles for headgear. And now, it would appear, she's on trend for next season. Granted, they're a lot more exaggerated (or 'EXTRA' as the kids would say), but this Lady-Di-inspired trend could well be a runaway success with the style mavens next season.

If you're thinking Princess Diana was on the mood board for designer Erdem Moralioglu, you'd be wrong - it was actually Fanny and Stella, two Victorian cross-dressers who were put to trial in 1871.

Princess Diana will always be an iconic dresser, and will remain as one of the most stylish women in history. Thousands still look to her for style inspiration, and some believe her sons' wives also copy her style from time to time.
