Queen Consort Camilla has made careful and poignant nods to the late Queen Elizabeth since her passing – and during her state visit to Germany with her husband King Charles, she wore another beautiful piece of jewellery from her extensive collection.

The brooch, which features turquoise stones which matched Camilla's cornflower blue outfit on day one of her trip – a nod to Germany's national bloom – is said to be a piece that was given to the late Queen by Queen Mary to mark her 1942 confirmation.

It is set in an asymmetric floral motif, with sizeable diamonds surrounding the six turquoises. Significantly, it would have been one of the Queen's longest-owned pieces, since it was given to her ten years before she ascended to the throne in 1952.

But interestingly, it's thought that the brooch has never been seen before – there are no archive images of Queen Elizabeth wearing the turquoise and diamond sparkler.

Royal jewellery experts were quick to comment on Camilla's choice of jewellery, with blogger The Court Jeweller writing: "I don’t believe we’ve ever seen any photographs of the late Queen’s confirmation presents, and I can’t recall seeing her ever wear this small diamond and turquoise brooch in public... It’s so wonderful to see little bits of royal history peek out of the vaults on occasions like this!"

Meanwhile antique jewellery specialist Geoffrey Munn gave some insight into what the meaning behind the brooch may be. He wrote on Instagram: "The asymmetry of this brooch suggests a pansy flower which in French is 'pensée' which translates as 'think of the giver'. Turquoise equals love. Diamonds forever... 'Remember forever love'. It looks English to me, circa 1900."

Of course, later that evening Queen Consort Camilla would pay further tribute to Queen Elizabeth and her spectacular jewellery collection, wearing the late monarch's Boucheron diamond tiara and fringed diamond necklace.
