The Prince and Princess of Wales delighted royal fans when they brought children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis along to the Easter Mattins Service at St. George's Chapel in Windsor on Sunday.

While all eyes were on Princess Kate's rule-breaking ensemble comprising of her electric blue Catherine Walker coat dress and unexpected nail colour, we couldn't help but notice the family's perfectly coordinated outfits. So why did the Waleses choose to wear blue this Easter?

The colour blue has long been associated with the royal family and represents authority, trust, and confidence. It seems, therefore, that the decision was a symbolic one.

King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla also stepped out in royal blue outfits, serving to denote their seniority alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales and sending a clear message of unity.

But perhaps another more poignant reason could be that the Easter church service marked the very first since the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II last September.

The late monarch, who famously had a love of rainbow-coloured outfits, often wore vibrant shades of blue to commemorate special occasions

In fact, she sported the very same electric blue shade to attend the Easter service a number of times over the years.

This year, Princess Kate recycled a Catherine Walker coat that she previously wore for Commonwealth Service in March 2022.

The 41-year-old royal styled her hair in elegant tumbling curls beneath an electric blue pillbox hat from Lock & Co., elevating her natural beauty with a rosy blush, bronze eye shadow and a soft pink lip.

Meanwhile, Prince Louis, four, was dressed in powder blue shorts, a suit jacket and matching tie, while Prince George, nine, was his father's double in a navy suit and blue tie.

Princess Charlotte, seven, was clad in a Rachel Riley floral dress with blue tights under a navy coat.

The royals are known to send clear messages with their pre-meditated choice of colour palettes.
