Florals are the bread of butter of royal spring style, so it's hardly surprising that a torrent of bloom-clad outfits floods our social media channels each year. Taking note, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark stepped out in Copenhagen on Friday in florals – and it seems that we have Queen Letizia of Spain to thank for this.

The Danish royal attended the opening of the Global Leaders Group event on Antimicrobial Resistance looking picture-perfect in Rotate Birger Christensen. The 51-year-old sported the popular brand's 'Number 19 Dress in Wild Flower Begonia Combo,' which featured a painterly floral print set against a mustard yellow backdrop.

Crown Princess Mary paired the romantic garment with a wool-crepe Helmut Lang blazer, infusing her classic look with a dose of designer minimalism, and slipped into a pair of black suede pumps by Jimmy Choo.

The royal's outing comes just days after Queen Letizia stepped out in Córdoba wearing a bold floral dress with retro-inspired shoulder pads. The royal looked poised for spring in her new look, which is a little different from the more sleek, modern looks many are used to seeing her wear.

Letizia's new outfit is from affordable Spanish label Cayro Woman, costing €96.90 (or around £85). With bright florals, a nipped-in belted waist and those statement shoulders, we can see why the Queen fell in love with it.

Not only did Queen Letizia's floral aesthetic coincide with Crown Princess Mary's, but royal fans also likened the look to the silhouettes that were popular in the eighties – in fact, it is even similar to some of the styles that the late Princess Diana was once renowned for wearing.

Perhaps the most iconic of royal dressers, Princess Diana championed the sleek cut designer featuring a sharp shoulder. Spanning velvet evening gowns to sporty ensembles, the beloved People's Princess curated a wardrobe that would go down in the fashion history books.
