There was a collective swoon from royal fans this weekend when Prince Louis’ 5th birthday portraits were released.
But as dedicated followers of royal fashion, we weren’t just swooning over the cute snaps of the birthday boy sitting in a wheelbarrow - we were also very taken with the look chosen by his mum Princess Kate.
Kate was the picture of nautical chic in a Breton stripe top, identified as the Erdem Lotus Stripe Cashmere knit jumper by several royal fashion blogs, including Royal Fashion Police.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen Kate rock the £650 cashmere top, which is made in Scotland and features a slim fit, round neck and long sleeves.
It’s from brand Erdem’s pre-autumn 2020 collection and Kate also wore it in May 2021 when she visited St Andrews University with Prince William.
Nautical stripe fan Kate often rocks a Breton stripe for her more casual royal engagements when she needs a smart-yet-laid back look. She owns at least three other tops in different colourways by ME+EM which we’ve seen over the years. It’s a winning fashion formula-
Sadly, any royal fans wanting to snap up the exact look are out of luck, since The Erdem top is long sold out. However, a great Breton top in the same style is available on the high street - at Joules.
The British brand’s Ultra-Fine Cotton Bretton Crew Neck Jumper is a similar style in spring-perfect cotton for a fraction of the price. It’s available in sizes XS to XL for £55.
The cream colourway looks so similar to Kate’s birthday portrait outfit - but there are also lovely versions available in French navy, navy and blue up for grabs.
