Ben Affleck inhabits CIA operative Jack Ryan in The Sum Of All Fears, the latest in the ever-evolving Tom Clancy series, currently shooting in Montreal. But the Oscar winner and Pearl Harbor star insists he wants to be more than a Hollywood pin-up.
“My fantasy is that someday I’m independently wealthy enough that I’m not beholden to anybody, so I can run for Congress on the grounds that everyday people – be they singers or poets or bankers or lawyers or teachers – should be in government,” Ben says in the May issue of GQ. “Not to get too Susan Sarandon on you, but part of what I’d get off on would be the oration, the speechmaking and the idea of leading.”
The 28-year-old star was a big supporter of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Congressional bid, and was once romantically linked to her daughter, Chelsea Clinton; of late he’s officially unattached.
Ben’s pal and recent Bounce companion Gwyneth Paltrow, however, is reportedly dating actor Luke Wilson, her co-star in the upcoming quirky comedy The Royal Tenenbaums. She recently split from film executive Jason Blum and earlier this year was seen alongside condiment heir Chris Heinz.
