Actor Harrison Ford is said to have reconciled with his wife of 17 years, Melissa Mathison, after a trial separation. Friends of the family were shocked when the two split in November, but “they’re definitely back together”, a confidante of the couple reports.
Late last year the 58-year-old star moved out of the couple’s Manhattan apartment, temporarily settling in the nearby Trump International Hotel. Though known as a notorious homebody who was never into the celebrity scene, he was soon photographed at nightclubs with several beauties including Lara Flynn Boyle of the US TV series The Practice.“This is a guy who wears a hat with earflaps around town,” said Tucker Smith, a musician friend and neighbour of the star in Wyoming where Harrison owns a sprawling ranch.
“He was probably having some doubts about his marriage as he was getting older, but he missed his kids, missed being with the family,” says one insider. Despite the separation, the superstar never strayed too far. “Even when they were apart Harrison stayed close to Melissa and the kids. He was around for every holiday and even looked after the kids when she was in LA on business,” a friend added.
The couple met in 1979 on the set of Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. Fifty-year-old Melissa is a screenwriter, best known for penning the classic ET. They have two children together, Malcolm, 14, and Georgia, ten. Harrison has two sons from a previous marriage.
