Speaking for the first time since her break-up with star Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman claims she’s “still a romantic”. “I believe in destiny and I believe there is a soulmate out there for every one of us,” she says. “I am determined to keep believing that.”
“It is a very brave thing to fall in love and to say to someone ‘I love you’ because when you fall in love you have to relinquish a lot of yourself,” the Australian beauty says. “There is always the hope of falling in love and you do it, even if you know it is not going to end the way you hoped it would end.”
Nicole admits she still doesn’t know why Cruise ended their marriage, but, she insists: “The show must go on.” And while the two are embroiled in what will likely be a messy divorce, they do agree on one thing: the importance of protecting their children.
“My priority is my children – they are number one,” says the Practical Magic star. “I want to have two kids who grow up and say, ‘We are happy and healthy and we love you, Mum’.”
“I want to know them and I am willing to give up everything for that,” she told The Mirror. “I’d love to be able to balance children and a career but if that doesn’t work out, then I’ve made my choice. I’ve taken the past four months off to be with my kids and I want to take the rest of the year off to be with them. I’m going back to Sydney to spend some time with my family and not think about work or anything else but taking care of myself and my children.”
Tom and Nic are seeking joint custody of their two adopted children, Isabella, eight, and Connor, six. Nicole is scheduled to appear at this month’s Cannes Film Festival as her eagerly anticipated musical Moulin Rouge opens the prestigious competition.
