With her miscarriage and split from husband Tom Cruise, life has been anything but a bed of roses recently for Australian actress Nicole Kidman. And now, to top it all, she says she has become the object of a stalker.
The Down Under star has asked for a restraining order against self-styled poet and screenwriter Matthew Hooker, after he turned up at her Los Angeles home saying he wanted to take the Eyes Wide Shut actress and her two children, Conor and Isabella, out for an ice cream.
Six foot Hooker had originally tried to contact Nicole through her management agency. Rebuffed, he then posted “an urgent and important message for Nicole” on his website. “Whoever is telling you what to say or do to me is involved with a horrible and illegal violation of my rights,” read part of the message. “You are letting them sabotage any chances we have of being close.”
The message goes on to say: “You won’t find a more wonderful man, a better soulmate or a better husband. The fact that you have two lovely children doesn´t bother me at all. I´m ready to be a father to them.”
A week later, he wrote to the actress offering to tutor the children “to give us the chance to get to know each other” and then turned up on her doorstep the following day. When asked to leave by her security guards, he became aggressive and the police were called. According to Nicole, the law officers determined that Hooker was “was mentally unstable and advised that a restraining order was necessary”.
Nicole, who is currently in Cannes for the screening of her new movie Moulin Rouge, is particularly concerned about the safety of Conor and Isabella, the children she and Tom Cruise adopted.
