Nicole Kidman has won a court case against a man who had been stalking her. Matthew Hooker, 40, was found guilty of harassing and “seriously” annoying the Australian actress after writing her a love poem and calling at her house with an offer to take her to the ballet. But Nicole’s admirer, who was ordered to stay at least 250 yards away from the Moulin Rouge star and her family for three years, does not see it that way.
“This woman has severely wronged me,” said Hooker, an aspiring actor and, bizarrely, would-be US presidential candidate for the 2004 elections, after the hearing. “There is no reason at all to have a restraining order against me. I’ve never threatened anyone. I’m a gentleman.”
Nicole did not appear in court, but said in a written statement that Hooker’s actions had left her “fearful of our safety and security.” Hooker, who represented himself in court, told a different story. “She flirted with me like crazy,” he said of their first chance meeting. “She gave me a knockout smile and sparkled her eyes at me. I’m a single man looking for a good woman, so I was interested.”
Funnily enough, Claudia Schiffer has also been on the receiving end of Hooker’s attentions. When the man, who works in new media, pitched up at the German model’s holiday home in Majorca last year, claiming he had been invited to spend Easter with her, Claudia’s family called the police. Hooker is suing two airlines, saying that he was drugged by someone who stole his money during his journey to the island.
