“I’m not leaving England forever – I promise you not. I wouldn’t dare,” says Pearl Harbor star Kate Beckinsale of her plan to relocate to Los Angeles for six months.
Currently hot-footing around the globe to promote the recently released film, she will have to wait until the promotional tour of another of her movies – a romantic comedy entitled Serendipity in which she stars with John Cusack – is finished before she and partner Michael Sheen and their two-year-old daughter Lily can head for the West Coast.
“We’re off to lie in the sun in LA for six months,” she says. “I just want to rest. It’s been so mad. I’m so pleased Michael is not in a play in England otherwise I wouldn’t be going to Los Angeles. At least there we’ll get to see each other every day and I won’t have to answer questions like: ‘Who’s the best kisser, Ben Affleck or Josh Hartnett?’.”
The Golden Bowl actress is adamant, however, that the family’s California sojourn will be a temporary affair. “We have to come back anyway, because Lily will start school next year and we want her to be educated at home – and this country is our home,” says Kate, who is hoping that her daughter will attend her old school in West London.
