Oscar winner Angelina Jolie was greeted by screaming fans flashing “Marry Me” posters outside the LA premiere of Tomb Raider on Tuesday night, as she and the film’s co-stars unveiled the eagerly anticipated flick. Co-star Iain Glen and American Beauty actress Thora Birch walked the red carpet and chatted with onlookers before the screening the high octane, big-screen adaptation of the cult video game which has sold 20 million copies worldwide.

Sultry Angelina plays Lara Croft, a gun-wielding uber-babe-meets-Indiana Jones who travels the world in search of lost tombs. The Girl, Interrupted star revelled in the physicality of the role, which is destined to further raise her stunning profile. “It was great, it’s like being a kid again,” she said of Lara’s athletic exploits. “I think we should all start doing cartwheels a little more.”

Canadian songbird Nelly Furtado, who is featured on the film’s soundtrack, had high praise for the luscious Lara Croft. “Angelina Jolie is a symbol of femininity and independence and sexiness and power,” says Nelly. “She brings that meaning to the movie, I think.” Nelly was joined at the premiere by Dark Angel star Jessica Alba, Dawson’s Creek pin-up James Van Der Beek, and Matt LeBlanc of Friends.

Tomb Raider opens on Friday across the US and on July 6 in the UK.
