The zookeeper who was in Komo’s cage when the 10-ft-long Komodo dragon attacked Phil Bronstein has hit back at reports that he did nothing to help Phil when the beast took a liking to his foot. Sharon Stone, who is married to Phil, claimed that Jay Kilgore stood by “paralysed and unable to do anything to help.”

In a statement, the L.A. Zoo worker told his side of the story. “Komo without warning bit Phil on his left foot and held on. I grabbed Komo by his neck and yelled at him. He let go after an estimated one or two seconds. I pulled Komo away and yelled at Phil to get out.” According to Jay, Sharon stood by screaming and “was hysterical”.

After the incident, journalist Phil, who is Executive Editor at the San Francisco Examiner, said: “This was a bizarre accident that became something larger than it should be. But that’s how it goes when a movie star and a dragon are involved.” Phil’s trip to the zoo was organised by Sharon as a gift for Father’s Day from the couple’s son Roan, one.
