Titanic star Kate Winslet could be swapping acting for singing – but fans of the Oscar-nominated screen icon need not worry, because her career change is only a temporary one.
The vivacious actress is to release a Christmas single, after wowing record company bosses with a song she recorded for a movie, Christmas Carol: The Movie. But Kate warned record company bosses that she would only allow the song to be released if the proceeds went to two childrens’ charities chosen by her – the NSPCC and Sargeant Cancer Care for Children.
A spokesman for Kate, who impressed movie audiences with her singing ability in the 1995 film Sense And Sensibility, has explained Kate’s role in the project. “She wanted to be the voice in the film, and the executives at EMI were taken with the song and asked her if they could have her permission to release it. Kate said as long as the proceeds went to her charities. She just wanted to be a part of the project and it turned out well. So if some charities could get some money out of it, she was happy to help out.”
In the animated film, Kate plays the part of Belle, Scrooge’s ex-fiancee. Due to hit UK movie screens in December, Christmas Carol: The Movie also features the voices of Nicolas Cage and Simon Callow.
