Reports surfaced last week that Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe were on holiday at the same ultra-exclusive island in the Fijian archipelago, fuelling speculation over the nature of their relationship. However, since a spokesman for the Fiji Visitors Bureau, Bill Whiting, first leaked the news, it now seems he’s clarified the information.
“Nicole arrived last Friday with her two kids and Russell arrived on Tuesday of this week,” said Whiting. “I believe he had someone with him, a female.” And while some said the female companion was fellow antipodean star Peta Wilson of La Femme Nikita fame, the mystery guest is now believed to be actress Danielle Spencer, a longtime pal and former flame of the Gladiator heart-throb.
The plot thickened after Nicole’s estranged husband, Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise reportedly flew to the island of Wakaya to see their two kids, Isabella and Conor. By that time, Russell was said to have left.
However, if Cruise did make the trip it must have been a quick jaunt as he was also spotted sipping pints of Boddington’s bitter at The Taps pub in Lancashire over the weekend. There he reportedly spent hours studying memorabilia from an 1886 lifeboat tragedy, possibly doing research for a film.
“He had two pints of some of the best bitter and then left,” said one patron. “He spent most of his time reading about the history of the lifeboat. He seemed captivated by it all.” Tom, who just wrapped filming on Minority Report with Steven Spielberg, is in London for next week’s British Open golf championship.
In other Cruise news, the Top Gun star and Spanish beauty Penelope Cruz have reportedly gone public with their own affair, Tom's publicist Pat Kingsley reports. The two have gone on "a few dates" since they celebrated his 39th birthday last week at posh LA lounge the Buffalo Club, she told US TV programme Entertainment Tonight.
