'PLANET OF THE APES' PREMIERS IN NEW YORK

One of the summer’s biggest blockbusters opened in New York this week, with an aftershow gig that attracted the cream of the Big Apple's society. Tim Burton’s remake of Planet Of The Apes cost a cool $100 million to lens – and the organisers of the party didn’t get much change out of half a million bucks, either!

The Roseland Ballroom, scene of Madonna’s invitation-only gig in New York, was transformed into a simian world for the party, with spear-wielding dancers dressed as monkeys hanging from trees. All the stars of the film made it to Roseland – Mark Wahlberg, Kris Kristofferson, Estella Warren and Charlton Heston, who starred in the original 1968 version and has a cameo role in Burton’s oeuvre – as well as the two British actors chosen to play chimps, Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Roth.

The guests, who included Amanda Peet, Aaliyah, and Puff Daddy, danced to British DJ Paul Oakenfold at the party. However, there was a distinct dress-down feel to the proceedings – Tim Roth turned up in jeans and a T-shirt with his wife Nikki, and there was a low turn-out of models.

One of the catwalk beauties who did make it to the party, however, was Eva Herzigova who turned up on the arm of her beau, Guy Oseary, who briefly stepped out with Gwyneth Paltrow last year. And model Rhea Durham, who is allegedly stepping out with Mark Wahlberg after the two met at the Nobu restaurant last week, made an appearance on the red carpet, but not at the actor's side.
