PANIC FOR CATHERINE AS SON DYLAN BREAKS A DIAMOND NECKLACE THAT MICHAEL HAD GIVEN HER

Little Dylan Douglas almost got his mother into serious trouble last month. The one-year-old son of Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas made a playful grab for a necklace that was round his mother’s neck – and yanked it so hard that the £30,000 trinket came to bits in his little hand.

Catherine was distraught – the sapphire and diamond necklace held together with woven gold thread had been a present from her husband while they were still courting – but luckily, help was at hand. The Traffic star called up her friend, Swansea jeweller Natik Hazim, who managed to piece the precious stones back together.

“It was clearly a beautiful and unique piece of jewellery, obviously very valuable,” said Mr Hazim yesterday. “Michael had bought it for her as a surprise gift and I knew she wanted to wear it for Dylan’s first birthday party. It was a really special piece so I had to be careful during the repairs, but I soon realised that two sapphire beads were missing.”

The jeweller contacted Catherine, who eventually found the missing sapphires after crawling under beds and furniture in her hotel room and, after the actress’ mother Pat delivered them to the shop, Mr Hazim worked through the night to get the job done in time for the tot’s birthday party.

And Michael, who had been on a business trip to Spain, was none the wiser.
