Kate Winslet and estranged husband Jim Threapleton have kept daughter Mia their top priority despite falling out after just three years of marriage. The high-profile couple spent Sunday on a family outing with their 11-month-old baby and returned together briefly to the North London flat where Kate has been staying since the separation last week. But while friends hoped the two would work out their differences, director Jim insists a reconciliation is not on the cards.
“That’s not even worth talking about at the moment,” he said late on Friday, breaking his silence on the split. However, he affirmed the two would always have a relationship as parents to their beautiful baby girl.
“Kate is a spectacular mother,” says Jim, who spent the weekend alone with his daughter. “We are looking forward to having a positive future with Mia. That’s the only important thing at the moment.”
Many believe the rift was at least partially fuelled by the Titanic star’s phenomenal success, which is at odds with Jim’s relative obscurity. “He wants to be recognised in his own right – write his scripts and get away from things – and not just be Kate’s husband,” said one Threapleton relative.
At the time of the split, Kate insisted there were no third parties involved. However, as news surfaced of her Enigma co-star Dougray Scott’s recent marital woes, speculation over the cause of Kate’s breach has inevitably turned towards the Scottish heart-throb.
Again the Hideous Kinky star pooh-poohed any talk of an outside romance. “That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard,” she said on Monday.
Kate and Jim have since put their homes in Surrey and Cornwall up for sale. The two-time Oscar nominee has reportedly purchased a cliff-top house with stunning views of the sea near Tintagel.
