Beautiful Irish export Samantha Mumba looks set to join the cast of the latest Austin Powers flick, Goldmember. And while the teen star admits she’d love to be a true Bond girl, with her new role in the spy spoof it seems she’ll get pretty close to realising her dream: Pierce Brosnan has reportedly signed on to the Mike Myers flick as well.

Insiders say Pierce, who is to start filming next month on the the latest Bond instalment, is a big fan of the Austin Powers films and jumped at the chance to parody his own alter ego. The Tomorrow Never Dies star will likely play a bed-hopping secret agent who teams up with Austin to no doubt save the world from Dr Evil.

And while the use of trademarks “007” and the name Bond have yet to be cleared by the classic film series’ executives, the Austin Powers camp ensures the joke won’t be lost on audiences. “It will be obvious Pierce is playing James Bond,” reports a spokesman for the comedy.

Meanwhile sultry Samantha will likely follow in the footsteps of Elizabeth Hurley and Heather Graham, aka Felicity Shagwell, in the role of the femme fatale. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for Sam,” shares a friend of the pop star. “Her film career just keeps going from strength to strength. This is definitely the most exciting development. After all, both Austin Powers films have been tremendously successful.”

Sam, who makes her big screen debut in the DreamWorks produced The Time Machine, is said to be thrilled by the opportunity. “I really love spoof movies like Scream and Scary Movie,” says the teen star. “But ideally I’d like to be cast as a Bond girl – it’s my ultimate girl.”

Goldmember is scheduled to hit theatres next summer.
