Robert Downey Jr enjoyed a brief respite from his stay in a Malibu rehabilitation centre when he went on an unusual shopping trip. The troubled Ally McBeal actor was seen browsing in pet shops, eventually leaving one establishment the proud owner of a cuddly new puppy.
The black and tan pup, which Robert cradled in his arms, is a gift for his eight-year-old son Indio, his child with estranged wife and rock singer Deborah Falconer. The actor, who has had a well-documented battle with drugs, dotes on Indio, calling their times together “patches of sunshine.”
Robert has been in prison twice before and is currently on probation after pleading no contest to drugs charges, but Hollywood has stuck by the Oscar-nominated actor through tough times.
When Robert joined the cast of the hit TV series he struck up a close relationship with Calista Flockhart, the actress who plays the title role. It was thought that the two were romantically involved with each other, although both Robert and Calista refused to either confirm or deny the rumours.
