Hollywood hunk George Clooney and America’s sweetheart Julia Roberts got on famously while shooting the upcoming heist film Ocean’s 11. It seems the two were so enthralled with each other they’re now set to pair up again in George’s directorial debut, Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind.

The Erin Brockovich beauty is in talks to star as a spy who works for a CIA recruiter, played by George Clooney. The script is adapted from a memoir by Seventies TV presenter Chuck Barris in which he claimed his stint as a game show host was merely a cover to protect his identity as a CIA hitman. Charlie’s Angels actress Drew Barrymore has signed on to play the presenter’s unsuspecting girlfriend.

Oscar-nominated writer Charlie Kaufman – the man who penned the much-talked about Being John Malkovich – wrote the Confessions screenplay years ago. And while the project has made the rounds in Tinseltown – drawing interest from Johnny Depp and X-Men director Bryan Singer, among others – it was George’s involvement that secured the green light from producers.

George, who recently helped the Pretty Woman star celebrate her 34th birthday at a bash in LA, met Julia early this year on the set of Ocean’s 11 – acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh’s remake of the classic rat-pack film. And while they had only been friends for a few short weeks, the former ER heart-throb braved a blizzard to attend an all-star tribute to Julia back in March. At the time George said he already considered her a true confidante, joking: “She’s someone you could call up day or night and she’d have her assistant call you back.”

When Julia later split with longtime love Benjamin Bratt, industry watchers suggested gorgeous George was to blame. He denied the reports, however, and is now said to be dallying with Bridget Jones’s Diary stunner Renee Zellweger.

Oscar-winner Julia has a packed film slate, having just inked a deal to star as a college professor in the inspirational Mona Lisa Smile. But, before filming begins, she’ll team up with Soderbergh again to lense The Art Of Negotiating A Turn, and then squeeze in George’s flick before shooting Mona Lisa.

Ocean’s 11 opens in the US on December 7 before hitting UK screens in January.
