Star Wars heart-throb Ewan McGregor celebrated the birth of his second child on Tuesday night as his wife Eve was safely delivered of a beautiful baby girl. And with Episode II: Attack Of The Clones hurtling towards cinemas this May, Ewan plans to take time off to be with his family. The couple already have a five-year-old daughter, Clara Mathilde.
Like every father, Ewan worries about how his first born will deal with the arrival of a new baby sister and decided his place should be at home. “I know it’s going to be the way it is for every older sister or brother with a new baby in the house,” he said. “She’ll need me around and I don’t want to be seeing her just in the morning and at night. I don’t want to be working when we’ve just had a baby – and I shouldn’t be pressured into feeling I should.”
Ewan need not worry about fading from the spotlight during his paternity leave. The trailer for his upcoming Star Wars episode – which contains little more than Darth Vader’s infamous breathing over a few shots from the would-be-blockbuster – is already creating a buzz on the internet and in US cinemas. The teaser debuted on Friday in the States before the Disney/Pixar film Monsters, Inc and helped push the kiddie film to box office receipts of more than $63 million, a record for an animated film.
A second trailer for Attack Of The Clones is set to premiere on November 16 before showings of the eagerly anticipated Harry Potter film. The new promo reportedly contains more than two minutes of action-packed scenes and the first snippets of dialogue to be released from the latest Star Wars instalment.
Episode II: Attack Of The Clones is scheduled to hit screens worldwide on May 16, 2002.
