In an upcoming interview Tom Cruise gets a few things off his chest – including his shirt. The Mission Impossible hunk bares his soul and his biceps, discussing the end of his marriage to Nicole Kidman and his steamy affair with Penelope Cruz.
“Nicole knows why, and I know why,” he said of their divorce following a February split. “She’s the mother of my children and I wish her well.”
“I don’t care if it piques people’s interest. My personal life isn’t here to sell newspapers,” he said in an interview promoting his upcoming film Vanilla Sky.
Tom, who sits down with veteran chat show host Larry King this week, talks openly about his romance with Spanish beauty Penelope.
“As a person and on film, she invites you in and she’s incredibly romantic, and yet real, you know? She’s beautiful. She’s a very skilled actress but has an effortless quality about her,” he tells Vanity Fair. “You look at Audrey Hepburn. She had that kind of elegance and yet was accessible.”
Later he gushes: “I thought, ‘My God. I’m your boyfriend. You’re my girlfriend’ Cruise and Cruz!”
Tom recently dropped a defamation lawsuit against Bold magazine. The publisher claimed to have a videotape of the Top Gun star engaged in a homosexual act, but after Tom filed a $100 million lawsuit the Bold executive retracted his comments.
“Life pounds you,” says Tom of the courtroom woes. “You come across losses. All of a sudden something happens and now you feel like you cannot go forward or it invalidates you.”
“You have to say… ‘How would you like it if someone says something that’s untrue about you? Now, what do you think about those people that do that? You don’t have to sit there and listen to it. You can tell them you don’t want to hear it’.”
Vanilla Sky, co-starring Cruise and Cruz, hits theatres in the US on December 14 before crossing the pond in late January.
