Statuesque blonde “angel” Cameron Diaz is about to become a member of that exclusive club of Hollywood stars who command $20 million a picture, having she signed up to lens the sequel to Charlie’s Angels.

In reprising her role, the 29-year-old star enters the ranks of top earners such as Julia Roberts, who banked her $20 million for Erin Brockovich, Tom Hanks, Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford.

Since appearing in the outrageous comedy There’s Something About Mary, Cameron’s career has been on a major high. Critical and commercial successes such as Being John Malkovitch and Angels followed. More recently she provided the voice for the heroine of this year’s top moneyspinner Shrek and appears in the new Tom Cruise vehicle Vanilla Sky, which is due to hit cinemas in time for the festive period.

The star of The Mask also has two other major works scheduled for release in the New Year the romatic comedy The Sweetest Thing and the Martin Scorsese flick Gangs Of New York in which she co-stars with Leonardo Di Caprio.

Cameron’s fellow angel Drew Barrymore has also signed up for the sequel, while the third member of the trio, Lucy Lui, is currently in negotiations. There is a question mark, however, over whether their on-screen chaperone, Bill Murray will reprise his role as Bosley, after feuding between him and Lucy sent tensions levels through the roof.
