Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger showed he’s not quite as invincible as his on-screen heroes after breaking several ribs in a weekend motorcycle accident. The 54-year-old actor, who was admitted to St John’s Health Centre in Santa Monica, California, after the Sunday crash, is in “good spirits, feeling sore, but otherwise fine,” according to his spokeswoman.

Arnold’s publicist Jill Eisenstadt called the incident “minor”, explaining, “He’s a very seasoned rider, and a very safe rider, but accidents do happen.” The actor was resting comfortably in hospital and will likely be released on Tuesday. “So as only Arnold could say: He’ll be back,” added Eisenstadt, referring to the famous Terminator catch phrase.

Though details of the accident were not given, Arnold, who underwent elective surgery to replace a heart valve in 1997, assures fans he’ll be up and about in no time. “Don’t worry,” said the actor in a statement. “This won’t affect my skiing with my family at Sun Valley, Idaho this Christmas.”

A quick recovery is in order as the Austrian-born actor has reportedly signed a $30 million deal to reprise his role as a futuristic cyborg in the third instalment of the Terminator series. A spokesperson wouldn’t confirm the astronomical salary, but stopped short of rejecting reports, saying, “We’re not going to deny it.”

Arnold’s latest flick, Collateral Damage opens in the US in February.
